Japanese garden - Back garden

"Japanese gardens have certain intrinsic principles that need to be adhered to, so that it will successfully capture its spirit. Nature is what you must be striving for; it can be idealized or symbolized, but never create something that nature cannot. There is no singular type of design, despite the fact that certain rules apply to every garden; each garden will differ by setting and usage.

"Having said that, there are three basic styles: flat garden, hill and pond, and formality as a design. If the garden is in Japan, it is a Japanese garden; all I can do is make an Australian garden in the Japanese style. At the end of the day it is the feel of the garden that is the important feature.
